Review: My Spa Weekend At Kilronan Castle!

Have you ever considered staying in Kilronan Castle & Spa, but not sure if it’s worth the splurge of cash? Well, after my recent stay in the secluded, luxury castle hotel I can tell you that it is definitely worth the money. The renovated Georgian castle is set on the magnificent shores of Lough Meelagh in Co. Roscommon, where the staff offer a high level of service, comfort and luxury, not forgetting the fine dining and a sleek modern spa also.

On arrival, we checked in and our bags were taken to our room for us. We headed straight to the spa where we could pick from a range of different treatments. I went for the 50 minute Full Body Massage and I don’t think I’ve felt that relaxed in quite a while. They had jacuzzis, saunas, and a lounge area offering refreshments for you to enjoy before and after your treatment. The corridor leading down to all of this was breath taking, with a shallow, blue pool running the length of it.

After the spa, we headed to our rooms to freshen up before dinner. Our suite was very spacious and had a fabulous view. The beds were the most comfortable things I had ever laid on and it was a struggle to get up off them for dinner.

In the dining room we had a 5 course meal, including 2 complimentary dishes from the chef. I can’t rave about the food enough! It was so delicious and just thinking about it now makes me want to go back. The only thing I was disappointed about was the chocolate cake dish on the dessert menu which was made with 66% dark chocolate. I hate dark chocolate so I had to go with a dish that I normally wouldn’t choose so I didn’t enjoy it as much. However, my soup starter and beef main were out of this world.

Once we finished our meal we headed into the bar to enjoy some late night cocktails. I had a couple Long Island Ice Teas which are my absolute favourites right now.

On our way back up to our room, I spotted something sparkly in the corner of my eye. There’s literally no getting past me, a whole cabinet full of jewellery available to purchase at reception stood before me. I spotted a pair of earrings that I said I’d treat myself to the next morning before leaving, but of course I forgot.

Ultimately, my stay in Kilronan Castle was second to none with the pleasant staff and scenic views making it all the more delightful. If you’re thinking of going there, then you definitely should. I highly recommend it and I hope to stay there again in the future!
